Jason Momoa's portrayal of Lobo in the upcoming 2026 DC Universe film Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow has fans buzzing with excitement. Lobo, the alien interstellar mercenary and bounty hunter from the planet Czarnia, boasts superhuman strength and immortality, and is the last survivor of his world, much like Superman. Created by Roger Slifer and Keith Giffen, Lobo first appeared in Omega Men #3 in 1983.
Momoa, previously known for his role as Aquaman in the now-defunct DC Extended Universe (DCEU), is thrilled to bring Lobo to life in the rebooted DC Universe (DCU). He has expressed that Lobo is his favorite comic book character and has long desired to embody the role, citing their aesthetic similarities.
From Aquaman to Lobo, Jason Momoa is crossing DC universes.
In an interview with ScreenRant, Momoa hinted at Lobo's appearance in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, suggesting that while fans will get a good look at the character, his screen time will be brief. "Well, this is the role I've always wanted to play," Momoa shared. "That's the comic I loved, so I'm really nervous about it. It's kind of a no-brainer to play this character. It's pretty big. I don't want to give away too much, but I mean, we look pretty dead on, exactly like the character, and he's pretty rough and gruff and… I'll say the bike's really cool."
When asked about Lobo's screen time, Momoa clarified, "It's her movie, so it's great. I just come in for a little bit."
In January, DC co-chief James Gunn unveiled the first photo of Milly Alcock as Supergirl, although it didn't reveal much. Gunn announced on Bluesky that filming had begun for Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, starring House of the Dragon's Milly Alcock as Kara Zor-El, aka Supergirl.
The film, set to release in June 2026, draws heavily from the graphic novel of the same name by Tom King, Bilquis Evely, and Ana Norgueira. The story follows an alien girl, Ruthye Marye Knoll, who seeks Supergirl's help to avenge her father's murder by the villain Krem of the Yellow Hills. Matthias Schoenaerts plays Krem, and Eve Ridley portrays Ruthye. The cast also includes David Krumholtz as Supergirl's father Zor-El, Emily Beecham as Supergirl's mother, and Jason Momoa as Lobo.
Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is the second movie in the new DCU, following James Gunn's Superman, slated for release this summer. The DCU's Clayface movie is scheduled for September 2026.
