How To Access the Deep Woods in Fields of Mistria

Since Fields of Mistria entered Steam Early Access, the Deep Woods have been tantalizingly marked on the town map—a tempting mystery until the March 2025 update. This guide reveals how to unlock this new area and finally meet Caldarus.

How To Unlock the Deep Woods in Fields of Mistria

Unlocking the Deep Woods requires breaking the Fire Seal and utilizing the newly acquired Dragon's Breath spell to melt away the obstructing vines. This involves a multi-step process:

First, you must place four specific items on the Priestess' Fire Seal altar (located on Floor 60 of the mines): a Faceted Rock Gem, a Rockroot, an Emerald, and a Sealing Scroll. The first three items are found between floors 50 and 59. Obtaining the Sealing Scroll requires a bit more legwork.

To get the scroll, you need to leave these items in the bin next to Balor's wagon:

• 10 Silver Ingots
• 10 Rubies
• 10 Sapphires
• 10 Emeralds

After placing these items, speak with Balor again. He'll inform you the scroll will arrive the following day. Once you have all four items, complete the offering at the altar.

Breaking the seal usually involves a simple farewell from the Priestess. However, in this instance, things take an unexpected turn. The Priestess urgently requests you leave before the scroll seals you within the mines. As your health plummets, Caldarus appears, offering aid in his human form before retreating to his temple in the Deep Woods to regain his strength.

He then tasks you with finding him there, granting you the Dragon's Breath spell in the process. This spell not only clears the path to the Deep Woods but also unlocks other previously inaccessible areas. Equip Dragon's Breath from the pause menu and activate it while standing before the entrance to permanently unlock the Deep Woods and other areas.

How To Find Caldarus

After unlocking the Deep Woods, Caldarus awaits within his temple, located north of the Eastern Road. You'll need Dragon's Breath to access the area. His location is clearly marked on your map. You'll find him in the northeast corner of the Deep Woods.

To reach him, proceed through the entrance and use your axe to clear a fallen stump blocking the path. Continue north until you reach the temple where Caldarus resides.

Once the Deep Woods are unlocked, utilize the Dragon Statue on your farm for convenient fast travel. Teleporting to the Deep Woods costs only 10 Essence, saving significant travel time. You can still interact with Caldarus through his statue.
