For fans of J.R.R. Tolkien, it's an exciting time as the prices for collector's editions are becoming more accessible. The Lord of the Rings Deluxe Illustrated Edition, a massive tome, has seen another price drop on Amazon, reaching a new all-time low. We previously reported on a discount back in March, but the current deal surpasses that, making it even more appealing for Tolkien enthusiasts.
This special edition of Tolkien's iconic Lord of the Rings series is now available for just $103, marking a significant 59% off its original $250 price tag. While $250 might have seemed a bit steep for a Lord of the Rings gift, the current price cut makes it much more reasonable and attractive.
This is not only the lowest price we've seen in 2025 for this particular edition of Lord of the Rings, but it's also the lowest price ever recorded for it. Amazon is the only retailer currently offering this discount, while other stores like Barnes & Noble continue to sell it at full price. Amazon has proven to be one of the best places to purchase books in 2025, especially for collector's editions like this one.
It's important to mention that this edition includes all three books of The Lord of the Rings trilogy but does not encompass all of Tolkien's works. There are also deluxe illustrated editions of The Hobbit and The Silmarillion available, as well as a more budget-friendly set of illustrated books with different designs and details. Below, we've compiled all these options, which also make excellent gifts for Lord of the Rings fans:
The deluxe special edition of The Lord of the Rings: Illustrated Edition is a single-volume hardbound book that comes in an intricately etched slipcase. The slipcase features a striking red-and-black design reminiscent of the novel's first edition. The book itself spans 1,248 pages and includes the entire fantasy epic along with its appendices. The text has been "corrected and reset" and is printed in red and black ink. Scattered throughout are 30 illustrations hand-drawn by Tolkien himself, including maps, color illustrations, and sketches. Additionally, the package includes two fold-out maps of Middle-earth, drawn by Christopher Tolkien.
