"Beam On: Star Force Quest Promotes Virtual Band with Endless Flyer"

Sometimes a new release comes around that, on its own, doesn't seem too exceptional. But then something pops up in my research that makes it stand out. As was the case with Beam On: A Star Forest Adventure, a seemingly standard endless flyer that, it turns out, is actually a promotion for a band called Star Forest!

If you're not aware of Star Forest, all you really need to know is that this is a virtual band, a bit like Gorillaz and Hatsune Miku (although more like the former, given there's no virtual music creation here). Beam On is, therefore, actually a companion piece to Star Forest's latest music video!

As for the gameplay? It's a mix of Flappy Bird and a touch of Jetpack Joyride. You simply need to avoid crashing into obstacles with the usual tap-to-rise controls, while a limited-use jetpack can be used for more complex navigation. As far as design goes, it's not exactly hugely original, but it doesn't have to be. The pleasant retro visuals and music do a great job of introducing the band.

Star Forest - Beam On GameplayStar vs- wait, wrong franchise Star Forest is mainly aimed at kids, and with the cutesy visuals and rather safe musical style, I can see why. But I'd assume there's probably a niche audience of adults out there who are looking for a Flappy Bird-like that doesn't try to drain your wallet, and those who may give Beam On a second look.

Is it a world-beater? Not sure, but it's certainly an interesting way to promote a virtual band. Beam On: A Star Forest Adventure is out now on the iOS App Store, and it does a commendable job of showcasing the genre while promoting Star Forest.

But if you're not quite grabbed by it, don't fret. We've selected some of the top titles out there for the latest games and given them a roundup. Check out our weekly ranking of the top five new mobile games to try this week and dig into great launches from the last seven days!
