The Borderlands series continues evolving its signature weapon mechanics in Borderlands 4. Discover the upgraded manufacturer system and how to claim a free exclusive in-game weapon skin.
Revolutionary Weapon Manufacturer System
Enhanced Discovery Mechanics

The franchise's renowned weapon crafting system receives major upgrades in Borderlands 4. In an exclusive discussion with GamesRadar+, Executive Producer Chris Brock revealed significant improvements to weapon discovery and customization.
"While our previous gun mechanics worked well, the new system creates more unexpected discoveries," Brock explained. He highlighted Borderlands 4's innovative "licensed parts" feature allowing cross-manufacturer weapon behaviors.
The series' trademark manufacturer-based system helps players navigate loot by providing distinct characteristics and mechanics for each brand.

Borderlands 4 welcomes three fresh manufacturers: Order, Ripper, and Daedalus. Returning favorites include Jakobs, Maliwan, Tediore, Torque, and Vladof. Notable exclusions are COV and Hyperion following story developments in previous installments.
The development team prioritizes weapon diversity after Borderlands 3 and Tiny Tina's Wonderlands featured over one billion firearms. Senior Project Producer Anthony Nicholson emphasized Gearbox's commitment to expanding customization options.
"We're constantly introducing new firearms, manufacturers, legendary weapons, and personalization features," Nicholson stated. "Borderlands 4 will offer billions of weapons and attachments for players to collect."

To celebrate the franchise's weapon-focused gameplay, Gearbox announced a free pre-launch cosmetic. Steam users can claim the Hazard Pay Weapon Skin by subscribing to newsletters through their SHiFT account.
After subscribing, players must link their SHiFT account to their gaming platform. The skin becomes available when launching Borderlands 4 with the connected account. Additional rewards may arrive via SHiFT codes in promotional emails.
