Civilization 7 Dev Recommends Even Experts Stick With the Tutorial for Their First Full Campaign — Here’s Why

Firaxis' Creative Director, Ed Beach, urges even veteran Civilization players to utilize the tutorial for their first Civilization 7 campaign. In a Steam post, Beach highlights the game's significant departures from previous iterations, particularly the new Ages system (Antiquity, Exploration, Modern), involving Age Transitions where players choose new civilizations and retain Legacies. This, along with other new mechanics, necessitates a learning curve.

Civilization 7 Favorite Game Poll

Beach explains the default "Small" map size choice, stating it's ideal for mastering the new Diplomacy system and ocean exploration (crucial in the Exploration Age) with a manageable number of opponents. He strongly recommends using the in-game tutorial, even for experienced players, emphasizing its timely tips and explanations for new mechanics. The tutorial features four Advisors, each guiding players through specific game aspects. Beach suggests focusing on one Advisor at a time initially.

Even after mastering core systems, Beach advises switching to the "Only Warnings" setting, which alerts players to potential setbacks. He reveals that even the Firaxis development team uses this feature.

Firaxis also recently unveiled Civilization 7's post-launch content roadmap during a livestream, noting that Great Britain will be released as DLC. Civilization 7 launches on PC (Steam), Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S on February 11th, with early access for the Deluxe Edition starting February 6th.
