Warner Bros.' shelved film Coyote vs. Acme might finally get its chance to shine, as Deadline reports. The entertainment news outlet reveals that Ketchup Entertainment, an independent LA-based film studio, is currently in advanced negotiations to acquire distribution rights for the completed movie - previously believed to be permanently canceled.
While the deal remains unconfirmed, sources indicate a potential theatrical release for Coyote vs. Acme in 2026 should negotiations succeed.
Announced in 2022 and inspired by Ian Frazier's 1990 New Yorker article, Coyote vs. Acme features Will Forte and John Cena in a screenplay co-written by James Gunn. Originally slated for Max in mid-2023, the fully-shot film faced unexpected cancellation, sparking an ongoing fan-led preservation movement.
Ketchup Entertainment recently saved Warner Bros.' animated feature The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie from cancellation, securing its US theatrical release as the franchise's first fully-animated cinema debut - earning praise from IGN as "hilariously entertaining".
The studio's portfolio includes Hellboy: The Crooked Man, Ben Affleck-starring thriller Hypnotic directed by Robert Rodriguez, and as co-producers of Michael Mann's 2023 Ferrari biopic.
