DAN DA DAN: A Fall Anime Sensation You Won't Want to Miss
With each new preview, the anticipation for DAN DA DAN soars. This anime is generating significant buzz, attracting attention from major streaming platforms and theatrical distributors alike. Crunchyroll and Netflix will stream it globally, while GKIDS is bringing the first three episodes to North American cinemas this fall.
Based on Yukinobu Tatsu's popular manga, DAN DA DAN follows Ken "Okarun" Takakura, a boy who believes in aliens but not ghosts, and Momo Ayase, who holds the opposite belief. Their "test of courage" reveals a shocking truth: they're both right, plunging their lives into utter chaos.
A Stellar Cast and Crew Elevate the Hype
The latest trailer introduces a wider supporting cast. Momo's eccentric spirit medium grandmother, Seiko (CV: Nana Mizuki), is revealed, alongside classmates Aira Shiratori (CV: Ayane Sakura) and Jin Enjoji (CV: Kaito Ishikawa). Shiratori, a popular student, and Enjoji ("Jiji"), a former friend of Momo's, become unexpectedly involved in Okarun and Momo's supernatural escapades. Previously revealed characters include Turbo-Granny (CV: Mayumi Tanaka) and Alien Serpo (CV: Kazuya Nakai). Natsuki Hanae voices Okarun, and Shion Wakayama voices Momo.
Visually Stunning and Sonically Thrilling
The anime's unique blend of musical influences and dynamic character animation makes DAN DA DAN a visual spectacle, reminiscent of Mob Psycho 100. Director Fuga Yamashiro, a veteran assistant director under Science Saru's co-founder Masaaki Yuasa, leads the production. Yoshimichi Kameda, a key animator on Mob Psycho 100, designs the aliens and paranormal creatures, while Naoyuki Onda (Berserk, Psycho-Pass) designs the human characters.
The soundtrack, composed by Kensuke Ushio (A Silent Voice, Devilman Crybaby, Chainsaw Man), promises an auditory feast. The opening theme, "Otonoke," will be performed by Creepy Nuts, known for their work on Mashle: Magic and Muscles.
Catch the Early Premiere!
Theatrical screenings of DAN DA DAN: First Encounter, showcasing the first three episodes, will begin August 31st in Asia and September 7th in Europe. North American audiences can experience the premiere on Friday the 13th of September. This event will include a video interview with the author, editor, director, and the voice actors of Momo and Okarun.
DAN DA DAN will stream on Crunchyroll and Netflix this October.
