When approaching max level in Rune Slayer, the Hill Troll becomes a prime target - not just for solid XP gains but for valuable early endgame loot. However, tracking down this massive creature poses its own challenge. This guide reveals exactly where to find the Hill Troll in Rune Slayer and how to claim its rewards.
The Hill Troll lurks in a mountain cave within Bahlgar's territory. Multiple routes lead here, but the simplest approach starts from Lakeshire's elevator. Descend toward Bahlgar as you would when hunting Beastmen, but instead of dropping into their area, follow the mountain wall. Continue past two platinum deposits until spotting a cave entrance along the mountainside. A mounted jump makes accessing this opening easier. While the route may seem tricky initially, it becomes second nature after a few attempts. Our demonstration gif shows the path clearly (we even stumbled upon a Troll-hunting party and joined the fray).
Despite its intimidating appearance, the Hill Troll ranks among Rune Slayer's more manageable mini-bosses. You'll likely face it repeatedly, allowing quick mastery of its patterns.
Never engage solo - while its attacks are telegraphed, the Troll hits hard. Finding teammates proves easy since many players farm this target. Bonus: after defeat, it respawns in just 90 seconds.
The Troll wields a massive pillar with slow but devastating strikes. Most attacks can be blocked or parried, except its two-handed overhead smash (which stuns - run!). Warriors can frequently stagger the Troll with well-timed Counters.
While rare equipment drops occur, focus on collecting Troll Hides and Heads. Hides craft solid transitional endgame gear - perfect preparation for tougher bosses like Mother Spider.
The Troll Head serves as currency for Hodor's repeatable quest (found near the cave). Hourly turn-ins can yield potentially game-changing loot, making this quest mandatory for Troll farmers.
Taming remains impossible, even for Beast Tamer Archers. As a mini-boss, the Troll's size and mechanics prevent companionship (it likely couldn't exit its cave anyway). Stick to tamer beasts like Mud Crabs instead.
That covers everything you need to know for successful Troll farming sessions. For more endgame guidance, consult our Essential Rune Slayer End Game Tips.
