You can currently get only two major first-party games for the Nintendo Switch 2: Mario Kart World Tour and Donkey Kong Bananza. While both are excellent titles, Donkey Kong Bananza has firmly established itself as one of the year's top games and an essential purchase for every Switch 2 owner.
Donkey Kong Bananza Review by Logan Plant
"The king of the jungle finally returns to kick some tail in Donkey Kong Bananza—a brilliant successor to Super Mario Odyssey and a triumphant comeback for a classic Nintendo icon. Choosing Donkey Kong over Mario for the Switch 2's inaugural 3D platformer was a daring move, but it's proven to be Nintendo's best possible decision. DK's fluid, expressive movement and powerful, dynamic skills forge a truly groundbreaking adventure. The ambitious, destructible layers of this subterranean world are densely packed with rewarding collectibles, endless charm, and ingenious challenges that never run out of smart ideas, even long after the credits roll. Bananza maintains a thrilling momentum throughout its 20-hour story and beyond, with puzzle-platforming concepts that grow more intricate as DK and Pauline delve deeper toward the Planet's Core. Every component works in perfect harmony to create Nintendo's first Switch 2 masterpiece."
We didn't just score Donkey Kong a perfect 10; it's the only game we've awarded a Masterpiece rating so far this year. While the competition among 2025's exclusive Switch titles isn't vast, it's been a phenomenal year for console gaming overall. We've witnessed some of the finest releases in recent memory, including Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, Death Stranding 2, and Doom: The Dark Ages—all of which came close to a Masterpiece score but fell just short. This isn't to say Donkey Kong Bananza is definitively better than those other games, as different reviewers handled each one. However, it underscores how exceptionally Donkey Kong Bananza stands on its own merits to earn that top score.

If the review has convinced you and you're eager to grab a copy right away, your best bet is to order online for in-store pickup at a retailer like Best Buy, Target, or Walmart. Best Buy, for instance, can have your order ready for pickup in as little as an hour. Ordering online in advance for store pickup is often more convenient, as it guarantees stock availability and saves you from wandering the aisles. Don't expect to find a discount, though. I haven't seen any deals on this title and don't anticipate any before Black Friday. That said, you can still find ways to add value to your purchase. Best Buy offers rewards points for every purchase with its free membership program, and Best Buy cardholders earn 5% cash back—similar to perks from Target's Circle card or Amazon's Prime card.
