It's been a while since we last talked about the announcement that Don't Starve Together was set to join Netflix Games back in June 2024. We have some mixed news to share. Unfortunately, the game will no longer be available on Netflix. However, the silver lining is that Don't Starve Together is still on track to hit mobile devices on both iOS and Android platforms.
Playdigious, in collaboration with Klei Entertainment, continues to work diligently to bring the eerie, Tim Burton-inspired world of Don't Starve to your mobile screens. In this survival adventure, you'll find yourself stranded on a hostile island, taking on the role of various quirky characters. Your mission? Gather resources, fend off wildlife, and, above all, ensure you don't starve.
Originally planned as an exclusive for Netflix Games, Don't Starve Together is now set for a global launch on iOS and Android via the Google Play Store and the iOS App Store. While we don't have an exact release date just yet, both Klei Entertainment and Playdigious have assured fans that an announcement is on the horizon.

No Netflix for you - It appears that the exclusivity deal with Netflix has fallen through. While it's reassuring to know that Don't Starve Together will still reach a global audience, it raises questions about Netflix Games' future commitment to indie titles. After all, Don't Starve is a well-established and iconic indie survival game. If it can lose its spot, what does that mean for other indie developers?
This situation, coupled with the removal of other indie exclusives like Shovel Knight Pocket Dungeon, casts a shadow over Netflix's dedication to its indie game catalog, which has been a significant draw for many subscribers. It's a concerning trend, especially as Netflix seems to be shifting its focus towards its own proprietary games, as highlighted in my analysis of the launch of Squid Game: Unleashed.
