"We're thrilled to share this with our fans," BioWare announced on Twitter (X). They've also detailed a series of upcoming reveals to keep the excitement building: "Expect high-level warrior combat gameplay, Companions Week, and more in the coming weeks," the developers shared. Here's the planned reveal schedule:
⚫︎ August 15th: Release Date Trailer and Announcement ⚫︎ August 19th: In-depth High-Level Combat Gameplay & PC Focus ⚫︎ August 26th: Companions Week ⚫︎ August 30th: Developer Discord Q&A ⚫︎ September 3rd: IGN First Exclusive Coverage Begins (One Month)
And that's not all! BioWare promises additional surprises throughout September and beyond!
The development of Dragon Age: The Veilguard has been a long and complex process, facing numerous delays spanning nearly a decade. Development began in 2015, following Dragon Age: Inquisition. However, BioWare's focus shifted to Mass Effect: Andromeda and Anthem, impacting resource allocation and development timeline. The project, initially codenamed "Joplin," was even temporarily shelved due to its initial design conflicting with the company's live-service strategy.
The project was revived in 2018 under the codename "Morrison." Following years of further development, it was officially announced as Dragon Age: Dreadwolf in 2022 before settling on its current title.
Despite the challenges, the journey is nearing its end. Dragon Age: The Veilguard is slated for release on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S this fall. Get ready, Thedas awaits!
