Funcom, the developer of Dune: Awakening, has provided new details about the game's business model and post-launch roadmap, clarifying that the May 20 release is a "full launch" and not an Early Access phase.
Despite being marketed as an MMO, the multiplayer survival game—inspired by Frank Herbert’s iconic sci-fi novel and its film adaptations—will not require a subscription.
Instead, the studio plans to grow the game with free content and feature updates, while following a traditional business model that includes optional downloadable content (DLC).
Funcom pointed to its track record with long-running MMOs like Anarchy Online and Conan Exiles, which continue to receive free updates, DLCs, and expansions years after their initial releases. The developer confirmed that Dune: Awakening will follow the same approach, consistently expanding with free updates that introduce new content, features, and improvements.
The standard edition of Dune: Awakening is priced at $49.99. The Deluxe Edition ($69.99) and Ultimate Edition ($89.99) both grant players a five-day early access period along with exclusive items. With the Season Pass—available in both the Deluxe and Ultimate Editions—players will receive four DLC packs over time, the first of which will be available at launch.
Purchasers of the Deluxe Edition also receive the Sardaukar armor, representing the elite military unit that hunts players in the game. The Ultimate Edition includes all of the above, plus Paul Atreides' iconic stillsuit from the 2021 film, a digital artbook, a digital soundtrack, unique color patterns, and the Caladan Palace Set, which comes with construction pieces, placeable items, and decorations.
Pre-ordering any edition rewards players with a universal color pattern applicable to vehicles, weapons, and armor, as well as the Terrarium of Muad’Dib—an in-base decorative item housing the famous desert mouse.
Funcom has also confirmed the PC features and system requirements for Dune: Awakening. Notably, the game will support Nvidia DLSS 4 with Multi Frame Generation, AMD FSR, and Intel XeSS 2 technologies.
