Dune: Awakening MMO Launches Without Monthly Fees

Dune: Awakening, the highly anticipated multiplayer survival game set in the universe of Frank Herbert's epic sci-fi novel, is set to launch without the burden of monthly subscriptions. The game's developer, Funcom, has shared exciting updates about the upcoming release, including details on various game editions and pre-order options.

Dune: Awakening Coming on May 20

No Early Access and No Monthly Subscription

Dune: Awakening will officially launch on May 20, bypassing an early access phase. This full release was confirmed by Funcom in a Steam blog post dated March 21, which also outlined the game's business model, system requirements, and plans for post-launch support.

Unlike many MMOs such as Final Fantasy XIV, World of Warcraft, and EVE Online, which rely on monthly subscriptions, Dune: Awakening will not follow this model. Instead, the game will be supported through free updates that will introduce new content, features, and enhancements. Funcom, with its experience managing live service games like Anarchy Online (celebrating its 25th anniversary next year) and Conan Exiles, is committed to long-term support for Dune: Awakening.

Pre-Orders Live Now and Game Editions Revealed

Following the announcement, pre-orders for Dune: Awakening went live on March 24. The game offers three editions for purchase: Standard, Deluxe, and Ultimate. Pre-ordering any edition grants players two exclusive in-game items: the Terrarium of Muad'Dib, a detailed decoration for your base, and the Sunset Dye Global Swatch, a unique color pattern applicable to weapons, vehicles, and armor.

Those who opt for the Deluxe or Ultimate editions will enjoy a 5-day head start, allowing them to dive into the game on May 15. The Deluxe edition includes:

• Season Pass: Access to 4 DLCs. The first will feature placeables inspired by Arrakis' wildlife, including Shai-Hulud. The subsequent three DLCs are slated for later release.
• Sardaukar Bator Armor: The fearsome armor of the elite Sardaukar military force, which players will encounter in-game.
• One copy of the base game.

The Ultimate edition builds on the Deluxe edition with additional exclusive items:

• Dusk Rider Sandbike Swatch: A unique color pattern for your sandbike.
• Blue Dasher Ornithopter Swatch: A unique color pattern for your ornithopter.
• Caladan Palace Building Set: Building pieces and placeables inspired by the 2021 film.
• Dune 2021 Film Stillsuit: The iconic stillsuit worn by Paul Atreides in the film.
• Digital Artbook: A 50-page collection of artwork from the game's development.
• Digital Soundtrack: 90 minutes of music from the game.
