Final Fantasy XIV Suspends Housing Demolitions Due to California Wildfires
Square Enix has temporarily halted automatic housing demolitions in Final Fantasy XIV on North American servers due to the ongoing wildfires in Los Angeles. This affects players on the Aether, Primal, Crystal, and Dynamis data centers. The suspension was implemented just one day after the company had resumed the automated demolition timers.
The decision to pause demolitions stems from the understanding that players may be unable to log in due to the wildfires and related disruptions. In Final Fantasy XIV, housing plots are subject to a 45-day automatic demolition timer if left unoccupied. This timer is designed to manage the limited housing availability. However, Square Enix regularly pauses these timers during major real-world events to prevent unintended loss of homes. Previous pauses have been implemented due to events such as Hurricane Helene.
The company has not yet specified when the automatic demolition timers will be reactivated, stating that they will continue to monitor the situation. Players are advised that they can still reset their individual timers by logging into their homes.
This pause follows a previous three-month moratorium that ended just a day prior. The impact of the wildfires extends beyond the game, with other events, including a Critical Role campaign and an NFL playoff game, also affected.
The unexpected suspension adds to a busy start to 2025 for Final Fantasy XIV players, following the recent return of a free login campaign. The duration of this latest demolition pause remains uncertain.
