Genshin Impact 5.5: Varesa or Xiao - Who to Pull?

May 06,2025 Author: Aria

In *Genshin Impact* Version 5.5, set to launch on March 26, two new characters will be introduced: Varesa and Iansan. Iansan comes as a 4-Star Electro Polearm, while Varesa is a 5-Star Electro Catalyst. The Version 5.5 livestream showcased their kits, with Varesa's standing out due to its striking similarity to Xiao's playstyle, which is the focus of this article.

How Is Varesa’s Playstyle Similar to Xiao’s in Genshin Impact?

Varesa's kit introduces unique mechanics that echo Xiao's gameplay. Her Charged Attacks are distinctive, launching her into the air and enabling Plunging Attacks while generating Nightsoul Points. This is particularly relevant as Varesa hails from Natlan, where these Charged Attacks are crucial for generating Nightsoul Points.

Her Elemental Skill, Riding the Night-Rainbow, transforms her into a luchador pro wrestler, charging forward to deal Electro DMG. Following this, her Normal Attacks convert into Plunging Attacks without consuming stamina, reminiscent of Xiao's Elemental Burst, Bane of All Evil, which enhances his jumping capability for consecutive Plunging Attacks.

After accumulating sufficient Plunging Attacks, Varesa can enter a masked luchador state named Fiery Passion when her Nightsoul Meter is full, boosting her attacks and Burst. Thus, utilizing Plunging Attacks becomes a key component of her gameplay.

Should You Stick to Xiao or Pull for Varesa in Genshin Impact?

The primary distinction between Xiao and Varesa's Plunging Attack playstyles lies in their mechanics. Xiao relies on his Elemental Burst to perform consecutive Plunging Attacks, while Varesa can initiate them solely with her Charged Attacks, enabling her to enter a more powerful state and sustain Plunging Attacks.

If you enjoy Xiao's playstyle and are drawn to this type of gameplay, Varesa could be a worthwhile addition to your roster. Her independence from her Elemental Burst for Plunging Attacks is a significant advantage. Additionally, she synergizes well with other Natlan characters, leveraging the Nightsoul's Blessing mechanic.

However, consider that Xianyun, an excellent support for Plunging Attack users like Xiao, will be available on a banner alongside Varesa in *Genshin Impact* 5.5 (Phase I). If you already possess Xiao and lack Xianyun, pulling for her might be more beneficial. If you're seeking a fresh yet familiar character, Varesa could be the right choice.

Genshin Impact is available to play now.
