George R.R. Martin Joins Animated Hercules Film as Producer

Jun 20,2025 Author: Henry

George R.R. Martin, the acclaimed writer behind *Game of Thrones*, has taken on a new creative role as producer for an upcoming animated film reimagining the myth of Hercules. According to *The Hollywood Reporter*, this unique project—titled *A Dozen Tough Jobs*—will bring the legendary Twelve Labors into a surprising 1920s Mississippi setting, told through the eyes of a local farmer.

Martin won’t be writing the script himself, but he’s enlisted the talents of Joe R. Lansdale, known for his wildly imaginative novel *Bubba Ho-Tep*, which features none other than Elvis battling an Egyptian mummy. David Steward II, CEO of Lion Forge Entertainment, praised Martin's storytelling expertise, stating: “If anyone understands the power of epic stories and expansive franchises, it’s George R.R. Martin.”

Steward added that *A Dozen Tough Jobs* aims to reimagine a classic legend through fresh and culturally rich perspectives. “This isn’t just a retelling — it’s a groundbreaking take, unlike anything audiences have seen before, grounded in history but pushing myth into uncharted territory,” he explained.

Meanwhile, fans of Martin’s *A Song of Ice and Fire* series are still waiting for *The Winds of Winter*, the long-awaited next installment. With over 14 years having passed since *A Dance with Dragons* debuted in July 2011, anticipation continues to build. Martin, now 76, has affirmed that after *Winds of Winter*, he plans to conclude the saga with *A Dream of Spring*—a resolution the TV adaptation didn’t live to see.

Despite the delay, Martin remains creatively active. He’s contributed to various *Game of Thrones* spin-offs, including the critically acclaimed *House of the Dragon*, and has authored fictional historical novels set in Westeros. Additionally, he helped craft lore for *Elden Ring*, proving his worldbuilding skills extend far beyond Westeros.

In a recent blog post from April 2025, Martin reiterated that *The Winds of Winter* is not yet close to completion, quipping that he’s “so tired of having to issue denials every time some offhand comment of mine, most having nothing to do with WINDS, somehow convinces half the internet that the book is imminent. It’s not. No.”
