PlayStation Productions Made Big Announcements at CES 2025
At CES 2025, PlayStation Productions unveiled a slate of exciting game adaptations, setting the stage for a wave of new content in 2025 and beyond.
Ghost of Tsushima, Helldivers 2, and More

The January 7th, 2025, presentation was packed with announcements. First up: Ghost of Tsushima: Legends, a new anime series, a collaboration between Crunchyroll and Aniplex, set to premiere exclusively on Crunchyroll in 2027. Takanobu Mizumo will direct, with Gen Urobuchi handling story composition, and Sony Music providing the soundtrack.

Asad Qizilbash (Head of PlayStation Productions) and Ashley Brucks (President of Screen Gems) revealed that film adaptations of Horizon Zero Dawn (produced by Sony Pictures) and Helldivers 2 (handled by Columbia Pictures) are underway. Details remain scarce, but they immediately followed this with a teaser for the Until Dawn film adaptation, slated for release on April 25, 2025.
Neil Druckmann then took the stage, briefly mentioning Naughty Dog's upcoming game, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, before unveiling a new trailer for The Last of Us season two. This season will adapt the storyline from The Last of Us Part II, introducing characters like Abby and Dina.
This flurry of announcements demonstrates PlayStation's expanding reach into video game adaptations. The success of these projects could pave the way for even more franchise expansions across different media.
Past Successes and Future Projects

Sony's history with video game adaptations stretches back to 2002's Resident Evil, starring Mila Jovovich, which spawned several sequels. Silent Hill (2006) is another example, though both franchises' adaptations have had mixed receptions from fans.
PlayStation Productions, established in 2019, has seen more success with its own projects. Uncharted (2022), starring Tom Holland, and Gran Turismo (2023) both performed well at the box office. The Twisted Metal series, released on Peacock in 2023, completed its second season in late 2024, though a release date is yet to be announced.

While not mentioned at CES 2025, PlayStation Productions is also developing films based on Days Gone and a sequel to Uncharted, along with a God of War TV series.
Given PlayStation Productions' trajectory and the demand for adaptations of popular video game franchises, it's likely we'll see even more beloved games brought to life on screen in the years to come.
