The Pointer Sisters' track "Hot Together" has experienced a monumental surge in Spotify streams after its inclusion in the newly released trailer for Grand Theft Auto 6, which debuted just yesterday. In the mere two hours following the trailer's premiere, global Spotify streams for the 1986 hit skyrocketed by an astonishing 182,000%. Although Spotify's numbers have not been updated since yesterday, "Hot Together" currently stands at just over 250,000 streams, a figure poised for significant growth in the coming days.
Sulinna Ong, Spotify's Global Head of Editorial, commented on the phenomenon, stating, "Grand Theft Auto cuts through popular culture like almost nothing else. Music has been synonymous with the series since the very beginning, so it’s great to see fans both new and established connecting with an iconic track in this way."
It has been 24 hours since Rockstar Games unveiled the latest glimpse of GTA 6, with the trailer amassing an impressive 77.7 million views on YouTube at the time of this report. The surge in popularity for "Hot Together" is remarkable yet not surprising. When the first trailer for Rockstar's latest installment was revealed in late 2023, featuring Tom Petty's "Love Is A Long Road," it too saw a massive increase in Spotify streams. This led to a flurry of fan theories about potential connections to GTA 6's storyline, though no such speculation has yet surfaced for "Hot Together."
As fans eagerly await the now-delayed release of GTA 6 on May 26, 2026, Rockstar is providing them with plenty of great music to enjoy in the meantime.
