Baldur's Gate 3, now a year-and-a-half old, continues to captivate players through multiple playthroughs. With Larian Studios stepping away from the series, Hasbro faces the task of charting the future for Baldur's Gate. Encouragingly, new developments for the franchise may be revealed soon.
In an interview with IGN at the Game Developers Conference, Hasbro's Senior Vice President of Digital Games, Dan Ayoub, shared that despite Larian's departure, "numerous parties are eager to engage with Baldur's Gate."
"We're refining our strategy for the franchise's future and exploring our options. In the near term, we’ll have exciting updates to share."
Ayoub remained tight-lipped on whether these updates involve a new Baldur's Gate game or a crossover akin to the prior Magic: The Gathering collaboration. He expressed a desire for a Baldur's Gate 4, though cautioned that its development would require significant time.
"It’s a challenging position," he noted. "We’re not rushing. We’re taking a deliberate approach, exploring various possibilities. We’re beginning to lay the groundwork and will soon share more details."
Ayoub acknowledged the immense expectations for the next Baldur's Gate, a pressure that extends to other Dungeons & Dragons-related projects, including a game Hasbro unveiled last year.

"I never back away from a challenge," Ayoub said. "Pushing creative boundaries excites developers. Our team is exploring bold ideas, aiming to elevate our standards and deliver something exceptional."
Our discussion with Ayoub also covered Magic: The Gathering, Hasbro’s collaboration with Saber Interactive, and the company’s broader gaming strategy. Stay tuned for the full interview next week.
