HBO's The Last of Us Season 2 will feature previously cut content from the video game The Last of Us Part II, according to showrunner Neil Druckmann. Druckmann revealed to Entertainment Weekly that "pretty brutal" scenes, including elements from the game's "Lost Levels" (restored in the PS5 remaster), will be incorporated. These levels, such as Jackson Party, The Hunt, and Seattle Sewers, offer a range of tones, from the relatively calmer party scene and boar hunt to the intense horror of Ellie's encounter with monsters in the sewers.

Druckmann hinted at a significant addition: a previously unshown character will make an appearance, similar to Frank's introduction in Season 1. The season will introduce numerous new characters, including Kaitlyn Dever as Abby, Danny Ramirez as Manny, and Tati Gabrielle as Mel, among others. Catherine O'Hara's role remains a mystery.
Season 2, premiering in April, will likely leave some storylines unresolved. Unlike Season 1, which adapted the entire first game, Part II's extensive narrative will span multiple seasons. Showrunner Craig Mazin has indicated that Season 2, comprising seven episodes, will conclude at a "natural breakpoint," leaving the door open for a potential Season 3, though it's not yet confirmed.
