MachineGames, the developers behind the upcoming Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, have confirmed a heartwarming detail: no dogs will be harmed in the game. This decision marks a significant departure from the studio's previous work, which often featured animal combat. Let's delve into this and other game specifics.
While many games depict violence against animals, MachineGames' Creative Director, Jens Andersson, explained their different approach in an interview with IGN: "Indiana Jones is a dog person." Despite the action-packed nature of the Indiana Jones franchise, the developers have prioritized a family-friendly experience. While Indy will engage in combat with human enemies, encounters with dogs will be non-lethal; instead, Indy will scare them off. Andersson elaborated, stating, "It’s a family-friendly IP in many ways...We have dogs as enemies, but you don’t really hurt the dogs. You scare them away."
Set in 1937, between Raiders of the Lost Ark and The Last Crusade, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle begins with Indy pursuing stolen artifacts from Marshall College. His pursuit takes him across a vast landscape, from the Vatican to the Egyptian pyramids and even the submerged temples of Sukhothai. His trusty whip will be used for traversal and combat, disarming and subduing human foes within open-world-inspired environments.
Rest assured, dog lovers: Indy's whip will remain untouched by any canine companions during this adventure.
Indiana Jones and the Great Circle launches December 9th on Xbox Series X|S and PC, with a PS5 release tentatively scheduled for Spring 2025. For more gameplay details, explore our related article!
