Warhorse Studios confirms that Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 (KCD2), the highly anticipated medieval RPG, will launch completely DRM-free. This announcement directly addresses and refutes earlier player speculation regarding the inclusion of digital rights management (DRM) software.
Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2: No DRM Confirmed
Dismissing DRM Rumors
Following online speculation, Warhorse Studios' PR head, Tobias Stolz-Zwilling, definitively stated during a Twitch stream that KCD2 will not utilize any DRM, including Denuvo. He clarified that previous discussions about DRM were misinterpreted, leading to widespread misinformation. Stolz-Zwilling urged players to cease inquiries about Denuvo's presence in the game. He emphasized that any information not officially released by Warhorse Studios is inaccurate.
The decision to forgo DRM addresses player concerns about potential performance impacts and negative experiences associated with DRM software, particularly Denuvo. While Denuvo serves as anti-piracy protection, it has faced criticism for allegedly causing performance issues in some titles. Denuvo's product manager, Andreas Ullmann, has previously attributed the negative perception of Denuvo to misinformation and confirmation bias.
Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is scheduled for release in February 2025 on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S. Set in medieval Bohemia, the game follows Henry, a blacksmith's apprentice, as he confronts a devastating event that impacts his village. Players who contributed at least $200 to the game's Kickstarter campaign will receive a free copy.
