Labyrinth Remake Announced, Eggers to Helm
Feb 12,2025Author: Evelyn
Robert Eggers, fresh off his gothic horror film Nosferatu, is set to direct a sequel to the beloved fantasy classic, Labyrinth.
According to Variety, Eggers will pen the screenplay alongside his The Northman collaborator, Sjón. This follows a previous attempt at a sequel with Sinister director Scott Derrickson, which seemingly stalled. TriStar and Jim Henson Pictures have opted to proceed with Eggers' vision.
The original 1986 Labyrinth, starring David Bowie as the Goblin King Jareth and Jennifer Connelly, follows a young girl's journey into a fantastical realm to rescue her kidnapped brother. She's aided by a troupe of Henson's iconic puppets.
Eggers' plate is full. He's also helming a werewolf movie, Werwulf, slated for a Christmas 2026 release. Set in 13th-century England, the film will feature dialogue in Old English.
Nosferatu, Eggers' recent Christmas release, is a remake of F.W. Murnau's 1922 silent film. The story, set in 19th-century Germany, centers on a real estate agent whose dealings with a Transylvanian count unleash vampiric horrors upon him and his wife.
Nosferatu garnered four Academy Award nominations: Cinematography, Production Design, Costume Design, and Makeup and Hairstyling. Read our review here.
