Veteran actor Michael Douglas, renowned for his role as the shrinking scientist Hank Pym in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), has hinted that his time with the franchise may be over. Douglas, who has appeared in all three Ant-Man films, including the 2023 release Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, as well as in Avengers: Endgame, recently spoke to Deadline about his future in the MCU. When asked if he would return for another Marvel project, Douglas responded, "I don't think so. I had the experience, and I was excited to do it."
Douglas, who has largely retired from acting, with his Marvel roles being his most recent big-screen appearances, expressed contentment with his current hiatus. He shared his enjoyment of life and the challenges of balancing his acting career with running his production company. "I'd never done a green screen picture before," Douglas remarked, reflecting on his Marvel journey. "But I'm enjoying my hiatus and enjoying my life. It was overwhelming running the production company and acting at the same time."
In previous interviews, Douglas had expressed a desire for Hank Pym to meet his end in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, believing it would enhance the stakes for Paul Rudd's Ant-Man. However, Marvel chose a different path for the character.

The lukewarm reception and box office performance of Quantumania have cast a shadow over the future of the Ant-Man series. However, Paul Rudd is confirmed to reprise his role as Ant-Man in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday. As for the rest of the Ant-Man family, including Hank Pym, Michelle Pfeiffer's Janet Van Dyne, and Evangeline Lilly's Hope Van Dyne, their return seems uncertain. In June 2024, Lilly announced her departure from acting to focus on her family, further diminishing the chances of her character Wasp appearing in Avengers: Doomsday.
While the full cast and plot details for Avengers: Doomsday remain under wraps, recent leaks from the film's set have sparked excitement among fans. Footage surfaced this week, revealing a surprising return of a location from The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, hinting at potential new storylines and character developments in the MCU's next big team-up.
