MultiVersus Scheduled to End in May

Player First Games has announced the upcoming closure of its platform fighter, MultiVersus, with Season 5 marking its final chapter. The game will officially shut down on May 30, 2025, at 9 a.m. PST.

The studio detailed the discontinuation of support in a blog post, confirming that Season 5 launches February 4th and will run until the game's closure. While online play will cease at that time, offline access to all earned and purchased content will remain available via local and training modes.

The MultiVersus team expressed gratitude to players and supporters in a statement, acknowledging the dedication poured into the game.

It's been an incredible ride, MVPs. Thank you for all the support. For more details, please visit our blog post https://t.co/tLVzpA9JaQ and FAQ https://t.co/XKuxAnd26j. pic.twitter.com/VLzBDbP0GQ

Real-money transactions have been disabled, but Gleamium and character tokens can still be used to acquire in-game content until the May 30th deadline. The game will also be removed from the PlayStation Store, Microsoft Store, Steam, and Epic Games Store.

MultiVersus' closure follows reports of its underperformance for Warner Bros. Discovery, resulting in a significant $100 million writedown, contributing to a larger $300 million total for the games sector. This financial setback, coupled with the underperformance of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, contributed to the departure of Warner Bros. Games head David Haddad.

Despite the shutdown, Season 5 will introduce new content, including playable characters Lola Bunny (unlockable via a daily calendar reward) and Aquaman (available through the battle pass). Both characters will be available starting next week. While the free-to-play title's lifespan is shorter than anticipated, Season 5 promises a fitting finale.
