Ninja Gaiden 4 and Ninja Gaiden 2 Black: A Double Dose of Ninja Action
The Xbox Developer Direct 2025 delivered a surprise double-whammy for fans of the Ninja Gaiden franchise: the announcement of Ninja Gaiden 4 and the release of Ninja Gaiden 2 Black. Team Ninja, celebrating its 30th anniversary, declared 2025 "The Year of the Ninja."

Ninja Gaiden 4: A New Era Begins
Developed by the collaborative might of Team Ninja and PlatinumGames, Ninja Gaiden 4 marks the series' return after a 13-year hiatus. This direct sequel to Ninja Gaiden 3 promises the signature blend of brutal, rewarding gameplay the series is known for.

The game introduces Yakumo, a young ninja from the rival Raven clan, as the new protagonist. Art Director Tomoko Nishii (PlatinumGames) describes Yakumo as a character designed to stand alongside Ryu Hayabusa, the series' iconic hero. Producer and Director Yuji Nakao (PlatinumGames) explains the decision to introduce a new protagonist: to broaden the appeal to new players while ensuring long-time fans remain satisfied through Ryu's significant role in the story.

A New Style of Combat
Ninja Gaiden 4 boasts fast-paced, brutal combat. Yakumo utilizes two distinct fighting styles: Raven Style and the new Bloodbind Ninjutsu Nue Style. Director Masazaku Hirayama (Team Ninja) assures fans that while different from Ryu's style, the action remains true to the Ninja Gaiden spirit. The collaboration with PlatinumGames brings a new level of speed and dynamism to the combat.

The game is currently 70-80% complete and in the polishing phase. More details are expected soon.
Release Date and Availability
Ninja Gaiden 4 is slated for a Fall 2025 release on Xbox Series X|S, PC, and PlayStation 5. It will be a day-one Xbox Game Pass title.

Ninja Gaiden 2 Black: A Remastered Classic
Simultaneously, Ninja Gaiden 2 Black, a remake of the 2008 Xbox 360 classic, is now available on Xbox Series X|S, PC, and PlayStation 5, and is included with Xbox Game Pass. This version features additional playable characters from Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2: Ayane, Momiji, and Rachel.

The decision to release this remake was driven by fan demand, offering a taste of Ninja Gaiden action while fans await Ninja Gaiden 4.
