Nintendo Addresses Latest Switch 2 Rumors

Nintendo Responds to Switch 2 Leaks from CES 2025

Following a series of Nintendo Switch 2 leaks originating from CES 2025, Nintendo has issued an official statement. The company, notably absent from this year's CES, declared that images circulating online are not official Nintendo materials. While seemingly obvious, this marks a rare public response from Nintendo regarding product leaks.

The Switch 2 has been the subject of numerous leaks since late 2024, coinciding with reports of the console entering mass production. One prominent leak involved accessory manufacturer Genki, who displayed a purported Switch 2 replica at CES. Images of this replica quickly spread across social media.

Nintendo's statement, given to the Sankei Shimbun, simply confirmed the unofficial nature of the images. The company emphasized its non-participation in CES 2025, thereby clarifying that no Switch 2 imagery from the event should be considered official promotional material.

Genki's Replica: Accurate or Not?

While Nintendo refrained from commenting on the replica's accuracy, the device aligns with previous leaks and rumors. The most significant difference from the original Switch is the addition of a new button, labeled "C," located below the right Joy-Con's home button. Its function remains unknown. Genki CEO Eddie Tsai, while unable to explain the "C" button, added that the Switch 2 Joy-Cons will reportedly connect magnetically and function as a mouse, echoing previous reports.

Nintendo's previous statements indicated a Switch 2 unveiling within fiscal year 2024 (ending March 31, 2025). With approximately 80 days remaining, the company still has time to fulfill this promise. Retail availability is anticipated no earlier than the second quarter of 2025, with a rumored price point around $399.
