Nintendo has officially confirmed that the mysterious new button on the Nintendo Switch 2's Joy-Con is indeed the C button, dispelling any previous rumors. This revelation came through the newly launched Nintendo Today! app, where eagle-eyed fans spotted the letter 'C' on the button in the app's promotional images on both the App Store and Google Play.
The C button first appeared alongside the Nintendo Switch 2 earlier this year, though initial images of the new Joy-Con did not feature any lettering. Despite this, earlier reports had hinted at the button's name, and now, its identity as the C button has been confirmed.

Speculation abounds regarding the function of this new button. Some believe it could be related to casting the Switch 2 to a TV wirelessly or facilitating screen sharing. Others speculate it might toggle the Joy-Con into a mouse mode or enhance group or voice chat functionalities.
Nintendo has scheduled a Switch 2 Direct for April 2, where we hope to learn more about the C button's purpose. In the meantime, here's a rundown of what we know about the Nintendo Switch 2:
The Nintendo Switch 2 is set to launch in 2025, likely not before June, based on hands-on event schedules.
It is larger than the original Switch, featuring bigger Joy-Con that resemble a mouse in design.
The console includes two USB-C ports, one at the top and one at the bottom, unlike the original Switch which had only one.
It is backward compatible, capable of playing both physical and digital games from the original Nintendo Switch, as well as Switch 2 exclusive titles. However, some Switch games may not be fully compatible.
A new Mario Kart game is in development specifically for the Nintendo Switch 2.
