Obsidian Entertainment's upcoming RPG, Avowed, will run at up to 60 frames per second on the Xbox Series X, according to game director Carrie Patel in a MinnMax interview. While she didn't elaborate on specific settings, the Xbox Series S version will remain capped at 30fps, as previously announced.
Whether Avowed will offer selectable performance and graphics modes (60fps with lower visuals vs. 30fps with enhanced visuals) remains unclear. It's possible the 60fps target is the default setting for the Xbox Series X.
Avowed launches on February 13th for those who purchase the premium edition ($89.99). The standard edition ($69.99) will be available on February 18th, reflecting a recent, albeit controversial, industry trend of staggered release dates for different editions. This practice, employed by some publishers, has already been abandoned by others, such as Ubisoft.
Set within the Pillars of Eternity universe, Avowed is a first-person fantasy RPG prioritizing player choice. Players will navigate a world steeped in war, mystery, and intrigue, forging alliances and rivalries along the way. IGN's final preview lauded the game's nuanced conversations, player freedom, and overall enjoyment, stating, "Avowed is just a lot of fun."
