Meridiem Games, Omori's European publisher, has announced the cancellation of the game's physical release for Nintendo Switch and PS4 in Europe. The publisher cited technical challenges related to multilingual European localization as the reason for this decision.
Cancellation of Omori's Physical Release in Europe
Meridiem Games' Twitter (X) announcement revealed the cancellation, stating that unforeseen technical difficulties with the localization process for multiple European languages made a physical release impossible. While the publisher declined to provide further details beyond their initial statement, the cancellation follows a history of delays.
Initially slated for a March 2023 release, the European physical version was postponed to December 2023, then again to March 2024. Pre-orders were subsequently pushed back to January 2025 before the ultimate cancellation. This news has understandably disappointed many fans, particularly those anticipating the game's official release in Spanish and other European languages. While a digital version remains available, European players seeking a physical copy will need to import a US version.
Omori, an RPG centered around Sunny, a young boy coping with trauma, blends reality with his dream world where he embodies the persona of Omori. Initially released on PC in December 2020, the game expanded to Switch, PS4, and Xbox in 2022. However, the Xbox version was subsequently removed due to an inappropriate T-shirt design previously sold by OMOCAT.
