Pokémon TCG Pocket Has No Plans To Go Competitive

The Pokémon Company has confirmed that Pokémon TCG Pocket will not be part of its competitive circuit in the near future. Dive into the details to understand more about the game's trajectory in the competitive scene and the potential reasons behind this decision.

Pokémon TCG Pocket Won’t Be In The Competitive Scene Just Yet

No Plans For Competitive Pocket

Pokémon TCG Pocket Has No Plans To Go Competitive

At present, there are no plans to integrate Pokémon TCG Pocket into the Pokémon competitive circuit. Chris Brown, The Pokémon Company’s Director of eSports, shared in a VGC interview on February 25, 2025, that while they continuously evaluate different titles for inclusion, Pokémon TCG Pocket is not on the immediate horizon.

In a light-hearted moment, Brown mentioned "Pokemon Sleep is out there too," referencing the company's April Fool’s parody trailer for the Pokemon Sleep Champion Tournament. However, he clarified, "But at this time there are no plans for Pokemon Pocket to join, but we’re always looking at things."

Too Early And Unbalanced

Pokémon TCG Pocket Has No Plans To Go Competitive

While no official reasons have been given for excluding Pokémon TCG Pocket from the competitive scene, fans have their theories. The game, launched in October 2024, is still in its infancy, having released only two sets in its first four months.

Despite featuring competitive elements since its launch, the game faces ongoing balancing issues, with players urging developers to address these concerns. Pokémon TCG Pocket, a simplified version of the original Pokémon card game, prioritizes a beginner-friendly experience over a competitive one.

Nevertheless, the Pokémon Competitive Circuit continues to offer a variety of events for fans, including Pokémon TCG, Pokémon GO, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, and Pokémon Unite, all set to be showcased at the upcoming Pokémon World Championships in August 2025 in Anaheim, California.
