Pokémon TCG Cards Feature Iconic Game Boy Locations

Feb 19,2025 Author: Aiden

Pokémon TCG Pocket's captivating card art has captivated players for months, but a recent discovery reveals cleverly hidden details linking some Pokémon to their Game Boy origins.

The investigation began when Reddit user asch_win highlighted Spearow's card, showcasing familiar landmarks: grass, a fence, trees, and notably, two buildings. The purple and yellow building strongly resembles Celadon City's Department Store from Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen. The adjacent area mirrors Route 16, a known Spearow habitat.

This intentional referencing of iconic Pokémon games is further evidenced by other discoveries. Reddit user jteede identified a Diglett card situated near Vermillion City, and a Haunter card near Lavender Town's tower. Asch_win also uncovered location references on several Supporter cards.

Many card illustrations depict Pokémon in fantastical settings unrelated to established lore. Some, like a Pikachu variant, mirror real-world collectible cards. However, others are unique to Pokémon TCG Pocket, making these Easter eggs particularly rewarding to find.

The community has since unearthed more connections. A Gyarados full-art card subtly features the S.S. Anne, while Oddish, Venonat, and Bellsprout cards collectively depict a scene reminiscent of the seaside Snorlax encounter in FireRed and LeafGreen.

Since its October release, Pokémon TCG Pocket has received one additional booster expansion, Mythical Island, bringing the total to four. Further expansions are anticipated, with additional cards periodically introduced through Wonder Pick Events and updates. As Creatures Inc. and DeNA continue releasing cards, players are encouraged to search for more hidden references.

Meanwhile, players can participate in the current Wonder Pick event featuring Charmander and Squirtle, and investigate the ongoing debate surrounding pack choice impact.
