How Much to Upgrade Switch Games to Switch 2 Edition?

Nintendo has announced the upgrade costs for transitioning from the original Switch games to the Switch 2 editions. Upgrading The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom will cost $9.99 each. However, upgrading Kirby and the Forgotten Land and Super Mario Party Jamboree will be more than double that amount. While exact U.S. prices are not yet available on the American Nintendo eShop, the UK Nintendo eShop lists the upgrade at £16.99 / €19.99, significantly higher than the £7.99 / €9.99 for Zelda upgrades.

Switch 2: Game-Key Cards?

Recent reports indicate that most physical third-party Nintendo Switch 2 games in Japan, and similarly in the West, will be released as Game-Key Cards. In the US, Sega's Switch 2 titles such as Sonic X Shadow Generations and Yakuza 0: Director’s Cut are listed as Game-Key Cards. Only a few third-party titles, including Cyberpunk 2077, Daemon X Machina: Titanic Scion, Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma, and No Sleep For Kaname Date - From AI: THE SOMNIUM FILES Aiba Edition, are not following this trend.

Switch 2 Game Previews

IGN recently had the opportunity to preview two of the most anticipated Switch 2 launch titles, Donkey Kong Bananza and Mario Kart World, both available for preorder now. Here's what our experts had to say:

Donkey Kong Bananza: "I think Bananza is set to be one of the most visually stunning Nintendo games to date. It truly leverages the Switch 2's capabilities – the environments are breathtaking, and DK’s animations are wonderfully expressive. It feels like the next generation of first-party Nintendo games has arrived."

Play

Mario Kart World: "Mario Kart World stands out as the quintessential Switch 2 launch game and is poised to be a defining title for the console. The introduction of an open-world format and Knockout Tour modes represents significant additions to the franchise. The visuals are stunning, the gameplay is exhilarating, and we're eager for more, though we wish the price were a bit more affordable."
