NetEase's Upcoming Open-World RPG, Ananta (formerly Project Mugen), Unveils New Trailer
Remember Project Mugen, the urban open-world RPG from Naked Rain and NetEase? It's had a name change! Now called Ananta, this title, first showcased at Gamescom 2023, has finally released a new trailer after a long silence. More details are promised on December 5th, but for now, enjoy the teaser:
The Mystery of the Name Change
The developers haven't yet explained the shift from Project Mugen to Ananta. Interestingly, both names mean "infinite" – Mugen in Japanese and Ananta in Sanskrit. The Chinese title reinforces this thematic consistency.
The gaming community is divided on the rebranding, but relief is widespread that the project hasn't been cancelled. Comparisons are already being drawn with Hotta Studio's upcoming RPG, Neverness to Everness. While Ananta's trailer is visually impressive, its lack of gameplay footage leaves some favoring Neverness to Everness. However, Ananta's aesthetic appeal is undeniable.
A Curious Social Media Strategy
Adding to the intrigue, the development team has deleted all their original social media accounts, including a YouTube channel boasting over 100,000 subscribers and millions of video views. Only the Discord server remains, simply renamed to reflect the game's new title. This puzzling decision has left many gamers scratching their heads.
Ananta's Premise
In Ananta, players assume the role of an Infinite Trigger, a paranormal investigator confronting supernatural chaos. The cast includes characters such as Taffy, Bansy, Alan, Mechanika, and Dila.
