The import tariffs reintroduced by U.S. President Trump are once again sending ripples through the gaming community, this time directly impacting Razer’s latest Blade 16 gaming laptop. These tariffs—essentially taxes on imported goods—are typically absorbed by companies or passed directly to consumers in the form of higher prices. In the current climate, rising costs are becoming increasingly common across tech and gaming hardware.
However, in some cases, products are being quietly removed from sale altogether. As first reported by The Verge, the Razer Blade 16 was listed for sale in the U.S. as recently as April 1—but now, all purchasing options have vanished from the website. While European buyers can still order the new laptop (if it's in stock), U.S. customers are met with a simple “Notify Me” button and no pricing details whatsoever. Attempting to access the Buy Now page leads users to a 404 error, leaving many gamers puzzled and frustrated.
Razer isn’t alone in pulling product availability under these new economic pressures. The tariffs targeting imports from China and Taiwan—where much of the global PC component supply chain is based—are expected to affect more than just laptop sales. Companies like Micron have already warned of potential surcharges, while Framework has opted to temporarily pause certain U.S. sales entirely until the market stabilizes.
This issue has also spilled over into the console space. Just last week, pre-orders for the Nintendo Switch 2 were abruptly removed from U.S. storefronts after the initial announcement date of April 9. Shortly thereafter, Nintendo Canada followed suit, delaying pre-orders for the same reason—economic uncertainty caused by renewed tariffs. Analysts and fans alike now fear that Nintendo may be forced to raise the base price of the Switch 2 beyond its previously announced $450, further fueling concerns about accessibility and value, especially following earlier backlash regarding the console’s initial pricing strategy.
