Samsung 990 Evo Plus 2TB, 4TB SSDs on Sale: Ideal for PS5, Gaming PCs

Samsung's latest SSD, the Samsung 990 Evo Plus PCIe 4.0 M.2 NVMe solid state drive, is currently on sale, offering gamers and tech enthusiasts a fantastic opportunity to upgrade their storage. You can grab the 2TB model for just $129.99, or if you're looking for more space, the 4TB model is an even better deal at $249.99. These prices are $40 to $70 less than the Samsung 990 Pro, and most gamers won't notice any difference in performance between the two.

The Samsung 990 Evo Plus is an excellent choice for both gaming PCs and PlayStation 5 consoles. It surpasses Sony's minimum speed recommendation for the PS5, with impressive sequential read speeds of up to 7,250MB/s and write speeds of up to 6,300MB/s. While it's not as fast as the 990 Pro, it's a significant upgrade over the non-Pro 990 Evo. The key difference between the 990 Evo Plus and the more expensive 990 Pro is that the Evo Plus is a DRAM-less drive. However, this doesn't impact PS5 performance. For gaming PCs, the 990 Evo Plus uses HMB (host memory buffer) to compensate for the lack of DRAM, utilizing a negligible amount of your system's RAM. Gamers won't notice any performance difference between the two.

The Samsung 990 Evo Plus does not come with a preinstalled heatsink. However, its new single-sided design is power-efficient and generates less heat than older SSDs. This means you likely won't need a heatsink, and it should work perfectly in a PS5 without thermal throttling. If you want added peace of mind, you can add a heatsink for an extra $7, but it's not necessary.
