Persona 5: The Phantom X Global Launch Under Consideration by SEGA
SEGA is exploring a global release for its popular gacha spin-off, Persona 5: The Phantom X (P5X), following strong initial sales in select Asian markets. This was confirmed in SEGA's recent financial report covering the fiscal year ending March 2024. The report highlighted that P5X's performance is exceeding expectations and that international expansion is actively being considered.
Currently in Open Beta – Limited Regions
Licensed by Atlus, P5X initially launched in a soft-launch open beta phase in China on April 12, 2024, followed by Hong Kong, Macau, South Korea, and Taiwan on April 18. Perfect World Games (South Korea) publishes the title, with development handled by Black Wings Game Studio (China).
Players assume the role of "Wonder," a high school student by day and a Phantom Thief by night, joining forces with the original Persona 5 protagonist, Joker, and a new character, YUI. The game features the signature turn-based combat, social simulation, and dungeon exploration of the Persona series, enhanced by a gacha system for character acquisition. Wonder's initial Persona is Janosik, inspired by Slovakian folklore and embodying a Robin Hood-esque persona.
New Roguelike Game Mode: Heart Rail
A new roguelike game mode, "Heart Rail," has been introduced, drawing comparisons to Honkai: Star Rail's Simulated Universe. This mode offers players power-up choices, varied maps, and rewarding stage completion challenges.
SEGA's Strong Full Game Sales and Future Plans
SEGA reported robust sales for its "Full Game" category, including titles like Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, Persona 3 Reload, and Football Manager 2024, all demonstrating significant market success.
The company is restructuring its business, creating a new "Gaming Business" segment to focus on online gaming expansion, aiming to establish a strong presence in the North American online gaming market. This segment will also encompass SEGA SAMMY CREATION's slot machine operations and PARADISE SEGASAMMY's integrated resort businesses.
SEGA projects increased sales and profits for FY2025, anticipating a 5.4% rise in Full Game segment revenue to 93 billion Yen (approximately USD 597 billion). A new Sonic title is also planned for release next year.
