Konami's Silent Hill f Gets 18+ Rating in Japan

Silent Hill f marks a series first by receiving an 18+ age rating certification in Japan.

As shown in last night's Japanese reveal trailer, the game holds mature ratings worldwide: Mature in the U.S., PEGI 18 in Europe, and Japan's strictest CERO:Z classification.

While ratings may adjust during development (as noted by Automaton), this sets Silent Hill f apart from previous entries. The original Silent Hill quartet (1-3 and The Room) carried CERO:C ratings (15+), while non-Japan developed titles typically stayed within CERO:C or CERO:D (17+) classifications.

Notably, even Bloober Team's Silent Hill 2 Remake maintained Japan's CERO:C rating despite Western markets assigning mature (17+) classifications.

Konami's latest Silent Hill Transmission presentation exclusively highlighted Silent Hill f - the first new mainline installment in thirteen years.

Initially revealed in 2022, Silent Hill f transports players to 1960s Japan, following teenager Shimizu Hinako's psychological struggles amid societal pressures. Series newcomer Ryukishi07 (When They Cry) handles narrative duties.

The disturbing trailer depicts Hinako's deteriorating mental state through graphic imagery - bloodstained, wounded, her school uniform shredded. While primarily cinematic, glimpses reveal unsettling monster designs and potentially a floral Otherworld replacement for the series' signature industrial nightmare landscape.

Konami hasn't announced Silent Hill f's release window, nor provided updates on No Code's Silent Hill: Townfall project.
