While some communities, like the Tomodachi Life fans, are reveling in excitement following today's Nintendo Direct, others are left feeling disheartened. Specifically, the Hollow Knight: Silksong community finds itself donning clown makeup once more, as no new trailer for the highly anticipated sequel appeared during the showcase.
Fortunately, hope springs anew with another Nintendo Direct scheduled for next week.
Of course, now we wait for April 2nd

The Silksong community has been oscillating between anticipation and disappointment for quite some time. A visit to their subreddit or Discord reveals a flood of memes and "silkposts" that humorously speculate and fantasize about the elusive game. Their rollercoaster of emotions was evident last year during consecutive Directs and again in January when a simple photo of chocolate cake sparked a wild goose chase for an ARG that never materialized. From the outside, it's challenging to discern whether the community's reactions stem more from genuine disappointment or from the camaraderie of shared jesting each time a new showcase is announced.
Nintendo Direct? That’s not until April 2nd

However, there's an added layer of urgency surrounding the upcoming showcase. Hollow Knight initially launched on PC, but its popularity soared after its release on the Nintendo Switch the following year, forging a strong association with Nintendo's platform. The upcoming Nintendo Direct is anticipated to unveil details about the Nintendo Switch 2, potentially showcasing both the hardware and several launch titles. This grand stage could be the perfect venue for Silksong's long-awaited re-emergence. Amidst the expected lineup of first-party games, Hollow Knight fans are clinging to the hope that Silksong's popularity and anticipation will earn it a spot at this significant event, signaling that the game is finally ready for release.

Will the hopes of Silksong fans be dashed yet again, marking perhaps the 50th disappointment since the game's announcement? It's possible. Yet, there are glimmers of hope suggesting that a release date announcement might be on the horizon. A recent mention in an Xbox Wire post on indies hinted at Silksong, though it might have been in jest. More concretely, recent backend updates to the game's Steam listing, including a copyright year change, have sparked speculation. However, the community has been down this road before, getting overhyped by random listings and delistings on various console storefronts.

The only certainty we have comes from Team Cherry's marketing and publishing chief, Matthew 'Leth' Griffin, who reassured fans in January after the cake incident, stating, "Yes the game is real, progressing, and will release." All we can do now is wait and dream of the day we finally step into a post-Silksong world.
So, get your clown makeup ready for next week, folks!
