Sony Cutting PS4 Games from PlayStation Plus Next Year

Feb 21,2025 Author: Camila

Sony is phasing out PlayStation 4 games from its PlayStation Plus Essentials and Games Catalog starting January 2026, focusing its efforts on PlayStation 5 titles.

This shift, announced alongside February 2025's PlayStation Plus monthly games, was detailed on the PlayStation Blog. Sony stated that PS4 games will no longer be a core benefit of the subscription, only appearing occasionally in the Monthly Games and Games Catalog. Existing downloads remain unaffected, and Games Catalog titles will stay accessible until their scheduled removal.

Sony emphasized its commitment to evolving PlayStation Plus, highlighting continued benefits like exclusive discounts, online multiplayer, and cloud saves. The company anticipates adding new PS5 titles monthly.

With the PS5's release in 2020, following the PS4's 2013 debut, Sony noted a player shift towards PS5 games. The company hasn't specified whether PS4 games will transition to the Classics Catalog (currently featuring PlayStation, PS2, and PS3 titles), promising further announcements closer to the date.
