While the previous generation Sony XM4 was already an outstanding headphone, the XM5 introduces key enhancements in noise cancellation and comfort. It features a second processor and double the number of microphones dedicated to filtering out ambient noise. The earcups have been redesigned to fit more snugly on the ear, improving the passive noise isolation. The noise cancellation is notably superior to that of the XM4 and most other noise-canceling headsets within its price range.
The Sony WH-1000XM5 also boasts a sleeker redesign with an updated headband adjustment style. The band is wider for better weight distribution, and the earcup padding is now made of a luxurious, softer synthetic leather, allowing for hours of comfortable wear.
