Nintendo Halts Regular Splatoon 3 Updates
Splatoon 4: Sequel Speculation Intensifies
Nintendo's recent announcement confirmed the end of regular content updates for Splatoon 3. However, the game isn't being completely shelved. Seasonal events like Splatoween and Frosty Fest will continue, along with ongoing monthly challenges and necessary weapon balance patches.
"After two fantastic years of Splatoon 3, regular updates are concluding," stated Nintendo's Twitter (X) announcement. "However, Splatoween, Frosty Fest, Spring Fest, and Summer Nights will return! Weapon adjustments will be released as needed, and Big Run, Eggstra Work, and Monthly Challenges will continue."
This announcement followed Splatoon 3's Grand Festival, concluding on September 16th. Nintendo released a commemorative video showcasing past Splatfests, highlighting the Deep Cut trio's performance at the Grand Festival. "Thanks for joining us in the Splatlands," Nintendo shared, "it's been amazing!"
With two years having passed since Splatoon 3's September 9th launch, and Nintendo shifting focus, the anticipation for a sequel – specifically, Splatoon 4 – is reaching fever pitch.
Some fans believe they've spotted potential clues – or easter eggs – within the Grand Festival event hinting at a new city in a future Splatoon title. One fan commented on images of a futuristic city, suggesting, "That doesn't look like Inkopolis. Could this be Splatoon 4's setting?" Others, however, remain unconvinced.
While no official announcements regarding Splatoon 4 exist, rumors have been circulating for months, suggesting Nintendo has begun development on a Switch sequel. The Grand Festival's status as Splatoon 3's final major Splatfest further fuels this belief, especially considering the influence past Final Fests have had on subsequent sequels. A "Past, Present, or Future" theme for Splatoon 4 has been speculated based on this trend.
Until Nintendo makes an official announcement, fans eagerly await news of a new Splatoon entry.
