Top Spring 2025 Anime Recommendations
I’ve highlighted The Apothecary Diaries, Once Upon A Witch’s Death, The Beginning After The End, To Be Hero X, and WITCH WATCH in my roundup of Spring 2025 anime dubs coming to Crunchyroll, but there are other fantastic picks from the list above that you should consider adding to your watchlist.
Devil May Cry is the latest animated video game adaptation from Netflix, and with its Limp Bizkit-soundtracked trailer and a newly composed Evanescence track, it's clear the creators understand the tone they need to capture for their target audience. Netflix has had a mixed track record with anime and game IPs, but with creator Adi Shankar's experience with Castlevania and Studio Mir's animation prowess behind hits like Avatar: The Last Airbender and Korra, this series promises to be a thrilling ride. Even if you're not familiar with the Devil May Cry universe, fans of anime like Trigun will enjoy the adventures of the ultimate '00s edgelord, Dante.
In Moonrise, the moon is on a quest for independence, a concept that might have the creators of 2021's Moonfall wishing they had thought of it first. This original net animation (ONA) boasts blockbuster talent, including animation from WIT Studio (Attack On Titan, Vinland Saga), character designs by manga icon Hiromu Arakawa (Fullmetal Alchemist), and direction by Masashi Koizuka (Attack On Titan Seasons 2 & 3). Despite the secrecy around the plot, this could be something special.
Lastly, YAIBA: Samurai Legends may not be widely known outside Japan or among younger audiences, but it has maintained a following since its manga debuted in the late 1980s. Created by Gosho Aoyama, famous for Case Closed, this samurai comedy follows Yaiba Kurogane as he battles a nemesis with a magical katana and a demon army. With WIT Studio animating and Aoyama involved in production, this series blends the style of Detective Conan with the humor of early Dragon Ball and numerous historical cameos, making it a must-watch.
