Square Enix has officially confirmed that Kingdom Hearts 4 is still in active development, putting any speculation to rest with a detailed social media update that includes never-before-seen screenshots. This message arrives just one day after the company announced the cancellation of Kingdom Hearts Missing-Link, its planned mobile action-RPG, while simultaneously reassuring fans that the mainline sequel remains a top priority.
"We’re currently working hard on Kingdom Hearts 4 and will continue pouring ourselves into the game’s development. We’re dedicated to making this an experience that lives up to your expectations!" reads the first post, accompanied by a rich collage of in-game visuals. These images offer a rare glimpse into the future of the franchise—showcasing character designs, cinematic moments, dynamic combat sequences, platforming elements, and even a first look at a massive, imposing enemy that hints at the scale of the upcoming adventure.

In a follow-up message, the team added: "We’ve seen how excited you are, and we are truly grateful from the bottom of our hearts. We are equally excited and can’t wait to share more about Kingdom Hearts IV when the time is right. Until then, we appreciate your patience. Thank you for your continued support." This marks the first substantial update on the title since a brief teaser dropped in January—and the most clarity since the game's initial reveal in September 2022 via a cinematic trailer.
Series director Tetsuya Nomura has previously indicated that Kingdom Hearts 4 will begin steering the long-running saga toward its ultimate conclusion—an exciting shift after 22 years and 18 entries in the franchise.
As for the canceled mobile title, Kingdom Hearts Missing-Link, Square Enix extended its apologies to fans who had been eagerly anticipating it. The decision to cancel came after internal evaluation determined that delivering a sustainable, high-quality service over the long term would not be feasible. While disappointing, the move allows the studio to focus fully on bringing Kingdom Hearts 4 to life as the definitive next chapter.
