Star Wars Outlaws' Sales Predicted to Fall Off by Industry Analyst

Ubisoft had high hopes that Star Wars Outlaws would mark a significant milestone, bolstering its financial standing. Despite receiving positive feedback from critics, the game's sales have been disappointing, causing Ubisoft's share price to drop last week on September 3.

Ubisoft had banked on Star Wars Outlaws, alongside its other major upcoming title, Assassin’s Creed Shadows (AC Shadows), to serve as key "value drivers" for the company's long-term growth. In its first-quarter 2024-25 sales report, Ubisoft emphasized its strategy to leverage these two games to improve its financial outlook.

In the Q1 2024-25 sales report, Ubisoft stated its commitment to the successful launch of Star Wars Outlaws and Assassin’s Creed Shadows, aiming to establish them as enduring assets for the company while continuing to transform its organizational structure. The report also highlighted a 15% increase in session days across consoles and PCs, primarily driven by Games-as-a-Service, with monthly active users (MAUs) reaching 38 million, a 7% year-on-year increase.

Sales of Star Wars Outlaws have been labeled as "sluggish." According to a Reuters report, J.P. Morgan analyst Daniel Kerven noted that the game has "failed to meet our sales expectations despite positive critical reviews." Consequently, Kerven revised his sales forecast for the game from 7.5 million units to 5.5 million units by March 2025.

Star Wars Outlaws' Sales Predicted to Fall Off by Industry Analyst

Following the release of Star Wars Outlaws on August 30, Ubisoft's shares fell for the second consecutive day on September 3, dropping by 5.1% on Monday and an additional 2.4% by Tuesday morning, according to the news outlet. This decline brought the company's share price to its lowest level since 2015, contributing to an over 30% decrease since the beginning of the year.

Despite favorable critic reviews, Star Wars Outlaws has not captured the enthusiasm of players as expected. Currently, it holds a user score of just 4.5 out of 10 on Metacritic. In contrast, Game8 awarded Star Wars Outlaws a rating of 90/100, praising it as "an exceptional game that does justice to the Star Wars franchise."
