Stellar Blade
Stellar Blade, Shift Up's first non-gacha title in the US, boasts impressive reviews, praised for its challenging Soulslike gameplay, stunning visuals, killer soundtrack, and distinctive character designs.
Our review highlighted its gorgeous visuals and well-crafted action, but also noted weaknesses in its story and character development, and some poorly implemented RPG elements like repetitive side quests. However, the Sekiro-inspired combat system, formidable enemies, and rewarding exploration more than compensate for these shortcomings. IGN awarded Stellar Blade a 7/10, though personally, I found it far more deserving of a higher score. It just missed our Best PS5 Games of 2024 list due to its recent release (games need to be out for at least six months for consideration).
Stellar Blade is graphically demanding. I recommend "Performance" mode for a smooth 60fps experience on the standard PS5. PS5 Pro owners can enjoy the best of both worlds with "Enhanced" 4K mode while maintaining excellent frame rates. According to PlayStation's blog, PS5 Pro players can experience 4K resolution at 50fps or higher, with smoother gameplay and improved detail via PSSR upscale. High Frame Rate (HFR) support at 80fps is also available (requires a 120hz display).
