Steve's Lava Chicken Song Added to Minecraft, but You'll Need to Hunt a Chicken Jockey to Find It

There is now a toe-tapping Easter egg hidden within the actual Minecraft game for this year’s A Minecraft Movie, though you will need to hunt down a certain iconic enemy to find it.

You can now listen to Steve's Lava Chicken song from A Minecraft Movie—or at least a new version of it—directly within Minecraft.

The tune, performed by the typically jocular Jack Black, was one of the film’s most viral scenes. To find it in-game, you must hunt down the enemy behind another highly memed moment: the Chicken Jockey.

According to Minecraft's latest patch notes for update 1.21.93, a music disc featuring the Lava Chicken song (remixed into a chiptune by Hyper Potions) can now be obtained "when defeating a baby Zombie riding a Chicken (Chicken Jockey)."

This fresh version lacks Jack Black's vocals but extends the original 34-second clip to several minutes by increasingly amplifying its dubstep beats. I have listened to it multiple times this morning and can confirm that, annoyingly, they have made it even more catchy.

Ahead of a breakout box office run where A Minecraft Movie grossed $955 million (no pun intended) and the launch of a special singalong version of the film, Steve's Lava Chicken achieved its own fame by becoming the shortest-ever track to reach the US Billboard Hot 100 Chart.

At just 34 seconds long and featuring lyrics like "la-la-la-lava ch-ch-ch-chicken," the song was written by Black and film director Jared Hess. It marks Jack Black's second breakout video game movie song, following his performance of "Peaches" as Bowser in The Super Mario Bros. Movie.

Months after the theatrical run concluded, it seems there is no escape from Steve's Lava Chicken. Plans for an A Minecraft Movie sequel have already been announced.
