A recent Bloomberg report, based on Japan-focused analyst predictions, supports this price range. However, some analysts suggest that Nintendo might even set the price at $499. Despite the higher cost, experts anticipate a massive launch for the Switch 2, potentially the biggest console launch ever, regardless of the price. Tokyo analyst Serkan Toto confidently stated to Bloomberg, "They will sell boatloads of Switch 2 in the first months in particular, almost regardless of the price."

The anticipated success of the Switch 2 at launch is largely due to the high demand for its initial lineup of games. Toto expects a new Mario Kart, as hinted by Nintendo during the Switch 2 reveal, a new 3D Mario game, and the already announced Pokémon Legends: Z-A and Metroid Prime 4, all set to release within the first year. Additionally, Toto anticipates strong third-party support, including Call of Duty from Activision. There's also a long list of rumored third-party titles, with Civilization 7 developer Firaxis expressing interest in the Switch 2's Joy-Con mouse mode. French game and accessory maker Nacon has confirmed they have games ready for the Switch 2, and the long-awaited Hollow Knight: Silksong is rumored to be coming to the console. Last month, EA mentioned that Madden, FC, and The Sims would be well-suited for the Switch 2. However, Activision has yet to announce its plans, and Nintendo has not commented on the report.

The expected release date for the Switch 2 is June 2025, according to Japan-based analyst Robin Zhu of Sanford C. Bernstein, who told Bloomberg that the console is expected to launch with an initial stock of 6-8 million units. If Nintendo sells through this inventory quickly, the Switch 2 could outpace its predecessor and the PlayStation 4 and 5, setting new sales records.

Concerns have been raised about the impact of U.S. President Donald Trump's tariff war on the price of the Nintendo Switch 2. The Trump administration has imposed tariffs on goods from China, Canada, and Mexico, which could affect the price and availability of video games and consoles. However, Bloomberg noted that the Switch 2 will be assembled in both Vietnam and China, with one analyst suggesting that this diversified manufacturing approach could mitigate risks for Nintendo.

The Nintendo Switch 2 was unveiled earlier in January with a brief trailer that confirmed backwards compatibility features and the addition of a second USB-C port. However, many details, such as other games and the function of the mysterious new Joy-Con button, were not disclosed. The Joy-Con mouse theory has gained traction, and last month, a Nintendo patent suggested that the Switch 2's Joy-Con controllers could be attached upside down. This new feature uses gyro mechanics similar to those in smartphones without screen locks. Unlike the original Switch, which used rails for Joy-Con attachment, the new controllers will use magnets, allowing them to be attached on either side. This design change won't significantly impact the hardware but will give players more flexibility in button placement and potentially introduce new gameplay mechanics.
