Sydney Sweeney, known for her role in "Madame Web," is set to star in the upcoming film adaptation of the video game "Split Fiction." This exciting project is being helmed by "Wicked" director Jon M. Chu, with the screenplay penned by the acclaimed writers of "Deadpool & Wolverine," Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick. The adaptation is being spearheaded by Story Kitchen, the company behind the successful "Sonic" films, which is now shopping this impressive talent package to Hollywood studios, anticipating a competitive bidding war.
The role Sweeney will take on—either Zoe or Mio—remains undecided, adding an element of suspense to this already thrilling project. "Split Fiction," developed by Hazelight and designer Josef Fares, has seen tremendous success since its launch in March, selling over 2 million copies in just one week. The game is also slated to be a launch title for the Nintendo Switch 2, highlighting its significance in the gaming world.
IGN's review of "Split Fiction" awarded it a 9/10, praising it as "an expertly crafted co-op adventure that pinballs from one genre extreme to another, offering a rollercoaster of constantly refreshed gameplay ideas and styles that's very hard to walk away from."
Hazelight's success isn't limited to "Split Fiction." Another of their titles, "It Takes Two," which sold 23 million copies, is also being adapted into a film, with rumors suggesting that Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson might star in it. While there's always a risk that these ambitious projects might not come to fruition, the current surge in popularity of video game adaptations bodes well for their potential success.
Story Kitchen is no stranger to video game adaptations, having already announced projects like the film adaptation of Square Enix's "Just Cause," directed by Ángel Manuel Soto of "Blue Beetle" fame. They are also working on adaptations of "Dredge," "Kingmakers," "Sleeping Dogs," and even a live-action "Toys 'R' Us" movie. Meanwhile, Hazelight is already teasing its next game, keeping fans eagerly anticipating what's next from this innovative studio.
